Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP)

Default Description:

Transports electronic mail across the network.

Additional Information:

This feature is not available on Windows XP Home or installed by default, but if needed, you may install it later off the Windows XP CD by heading to under Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components > Select "Internet Information Services (IIS)" > Details button > Check "SMTP Service". This service supports the use of a local (outbound) E-Mail server.
